WORLD SOCIAL WORK DAY- UN Geneva

Online Conferences and Workshops, on Zoom
Wednesday, March 17th and Thursday, March 18th 2021
From 10:00 am

Each year, social workers across the globe come together to celebrate World Social Work Day. The University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland-Social Work, Geneva (HETS-GE), University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland–Social Work, Fribourg (HETS-FR), United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD), International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW), and International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) are joining up to organize the 2021 edition of World Social Work Day at the UN in Geneva on 17-18 March 2021.

The theme of this year’s event, held in collaboration with Jai Jagat Geneva, is Community Engagement for Social Justice.
The Covid-19 pandemic has exposed the weaknesses of our global system. The most vulnerable in our societies are struggling to cover their basic needs. All over the world, communities are responding to these challenges, claiming the right to participate in decisions that affect them, and demanding the care and services to which they are entitled. The active and varied involvement of social work in support of these communities is at the heart of the reflections that will be carried out during the two-day event.

On Wednesday 17 March the programme consists of plenary lectures by Yvonne Riaño, a specialist in the geographies of inequality, and Aruna Roy, co-founder of one of India’s largest civil rights organizations (Workers and Peasants Strength Union), as well as interactive workshops. Thursday 18 March features presentations and a roundtable discussion with representatives from different regions of the world sharing lessons learned from supporting communities through the pandemic.

The event welcomes international civil servants, social workers, students and interested individuals.

Registration is now open !

Free participation. For the workshops, the number of places is limited and registration is mandatory until March 7th.
