2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Human\u00a0 relationships\u00a0 are\u00a0 the\u00a0 engine\u00a0 of\u00a0 social\u00a0 development\u2019\u00a0 says\u00a0 global report<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The fourth and final report on the first decade of The Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development 2010-2020 is published today, Wednesday 15th July 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The report includes a Global Overview and five regional reports highlighting the need to develop and sustain good relationships in social work and social development.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018In the challenging times facing the world today, the expertise of our professions is as relevant to world peace and development as it has ever been\u2019 said the Presidents of the three global bodies.\u00a0 Professionals in social work and social development have essential expertise in relationship building, a skill desperately needed in our world, which is too often divided by suspicion and hatred\u2019,.<\/p>\n<p>The key messages of the Global Overview can be summarised as:<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7\u00a0\u00a0 Failure to address worsening inequality is increasing instability and undermining social relationships<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7\u00a0\u00a0 Planning for sustainability and wellbeing for all in healthy environments benefits individuals and humanity<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7\u00a0\u00a0 Valuing\u00a0 and\u00a0 involving\u00a0 people\u00a0 in\u00a0 decision\u00a0 making,\u00a0 respecting\u00a0 local\u00a0 knowledges, including\u00a0\u00a0 indigenous\u00a0\u00a0 knowledges,\u00a0\u00a0 produces\u00a0\u00a0 better\u00a0\u00a0 and\u00a0\u00a0 more\u00a0\u00a0 sustainable<\/p>\n<p>outcomes<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7\u00a0 Demonstrating\u00a0\u00a0 support\u00a0\u00a0 for\u00a0\u00a0 respectful\u00a0\u00a0 relationships,\u00a0\u00a0 building\u00a0\u00a0 on\u00a0\u00a0 people\u2019s<\/p>\n<p>strengths, creates the best outcomes<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7\u00a0\u00a0 Respecting\u00a0\u00a0 the\u00a0\u00a0 practice\u00a0\u00a0 experience\u00a0\u00a0 of\u00a0\u00a0 practitioners\u00a0\u00a0 in\u00a0\u00a0 social\u00a0\u00a0 work\u00a0\u00a0 and development strengthens the effectiveness of policy<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7\u00a0\u00a0 Ensuring\u00a0 a\u00a0 positive\u00a0 working\u00a0 environment\u00a0 with\u00a0 relationship\u00a0 based\u00a0 management draws out the best in practice<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7\u00a0\u00a0 Resourcing\u00a0 education\u00a0 and\u00a0 training,\u00a0 including\u00a0 continuing\u00a0 personal\u00a0 development and\u00a0 research,\u00a0 is\u00a0 crucial\u00a0 both\u00a0 for\u00a0 organisational\u00a0 effectiveness\u00a0 and\u00a0 professional<\/p>\n<p>practice.<\/p>\n<p>The Global Agenda is a joint initiative of the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW \u2013 President Annamaria Campanini), the International Council on Social\u00a0 Welfare\u00a0 (ICSW\u00a0 \u2013\u00a0 President\u00a0 Eva\u00a0 Holmberg\u00a0 Herrstr\u00f6m)\u00a0 and\u00a0 the\u00a0 International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW \u2013 President Silvana Martinez).<\/p>\n<p>ENDS<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE TO EDITORS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 Global\u00a0 Agenda\u00a0 for\u00a0 Social\u00a0 Work\u00a0 and\u00a0 Social\u00a0 Development\u00a0 2010-2020\u00a0 was launched at the World Conference for Social Work and Social Development 2010 in Hong Kong.\u00a0 Designed to enhance the visibility of the professions and organisations, it has provided a common platform for the three global partners.\u00a0 The four themes each spanned two years and were the focus of World Social Work Days (WSWD) and regional and global conferences.<\/p>\n<p>The Global Agenda has attracted considerable interest including references in over<\/p>\n<p>100 published books and articles, extensive discussion in professional magazines and newsletters, references in submissions to the United Nations and other global and<\/p>\n<p>national official bodies and action on World Social Work Days around the globe.\u00a0\u00a0 It<\/p>\n<p>has stimulated reflection on the nature of social work and social development and helped shape the global discourse.<\/p>\n<p>A consultation on The Global Agenda for the next decade was launched at the Dublin world conference in 2018.\u00a0\u00a0 The consultation was disrupted by the global pandemic and\u00a0 its\u00a0 far-reaching\u00a0 consequences.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The\u00a0 global\u00a0 bodies\u00a0 decided\u00a0 to\u00a0 continue\u00a0 the consultation in 2021 to enable time for reflection on the implications of the pandemic and other developments.\u00a0 It is proposed that the theme for 2020-2022 should focus on solidarity.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 report\u00a0 also\u00a0 includes\u00a0 a\u00a0 description\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 process\u00a0 of\u00a0 The\u00a0 Global\u00a0 Agenda,\u00a0 an evaluation of the decade of activity and a chapter looking to the next decade.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 Global\u00a0 Agenda\u00a0 has\u00a0 provided\u00a0 a\u00a0 unifying\u00a0 focus\u00a0 for\u00a0 social\u00a0 work\u00a0 and\u00a0 social development, laying a foundation for further development and enhanced influence in its second
