ALAEITS proudly celebrated the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the first school of social work in Latin America, founded by Alejandro Del Rio in Santiago, Chile. This milestone marks a century of dedication to social work education and the advancement of social justice across the region.
During the seminar, a heartfelt tribute was paid to the 18 social workers who were imprisoned, killed, or disappeared during the dictatorship, reflecting on their courage and the enduring impact of their work. This was a deeply moving moment for all attendees.
The past president, Annamaria Campanini, delivered a paper entitled “Formar para transformar: retos y horizontes de la educación en trabajo social en el mundo actual” (“Educate to Transform: Challenges and Horizons of Social Work Education in Today’s World”). Her presentation was warmly appreciated by the audience and sparked meaningful discussions on the future of social work education in the modern world.
This centennial celebration highlights ALAEITS’ commitment to honoring the past while shaping the future of social work education in Latin America and beyond.
