The College of Arts Celebrates World Social Work Day

The College of Arts, represented by the Department of Social Studies, organized a program to celebrate World Social Work Day, which is observed on March 18th every year under the theme & Promoting Intergenerational Solidarity for Sustainable Well- Being & This celebration emphasizes the role of social workers in building a cohesive and sustainable society.

As part of the event, a visit was organized to the Social Development Center in Al- Ahsa on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. The visit aimed to familiarize students with the roles and responsibilities of social workers and the key social services provided by various organizations to the community. The following departments from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development in Al-Ahsa participated in the introductory session: the Foster Families Unit, the Social Development Center, the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center, the Social Security Office, the Social Education Center for Girls, the Supporting Social Services Unit, and the Girls & Care Foundation.

During the session, Dr. Tamer Mohamed Abdel Ghani Ibrahim, Professor of Social Work and Head of the Cooperative Training and Community Partnership Unit, and the organizer of the event, presented the theme for World Social Work Day 2025. He emphasized that this theme highlights the importance of solidarity and cooperation between generations. He also reminded everyone of our shared responsibilities towards elderly care, respecting youth, preserving the environment, and sharing wisdom and knowledge to build a better future for our nations and communities. Dr. Tamer also noted that World Social Work Day aims to spotlight the achievements of the social work profession and highlight the role of social workers in building strong
communities based on social justice, human rights, and sustainable development. On his part, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Saud Al-Halabi, the Dean of the College, praised the efforts of Dr. Ahmed Al-Othman, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Sattam bin Ghanem Al-Wahbi, Head of the Department of Social Studies, in strengthening the college & community partnerships. He emphasized the importance of celebrating
World Social Work Day and the value of field visits in fostering collaboration between educational and social institutions, which positively impacts the development and enhancement of students & skills, preparing them to be competitive both locally and globally.
