Mission

The mission of the IASSW Research Committee is to advance the social work profession by creating a global ecosystem where research, education, and practice are interconnected, mutually reinforcing, and collectively impactful. The Committee is committed to working to bridge the gap between theory and practice, with the aim to ensure that social workers are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to deliver effective and ethical services and promote changes necessary to achieve good lives for all. For this purpose, the Research Committee will:

  • Endorse that research is integral to social work practice, enabling its accessibility, relevance, and action. This approach equips practitioners with the tools they need to make informed decisions and facilitate outcomes for the individuals and communities they serve. We champion diverse epistemologies, value local and Indigenous knowledge, and strive for research that is culturally responsive and socially just.
  • Inspire and support collaboration among researchers, educators, and practitioners worldwide. It facilitates the exchange of ideas, experiences, and best practices, nurturing a culture of shared learning and innovation. By building strong networks and partnerships, the Committee aims to create a global community of social workers united in their pursuit of social justice and human rights.
  • Be dedicated to disseminating research findings and innovative practices widely, ensuring they are accessible and understood by stakeholders. Through publications, conferences, and digital platforms, it provides avenues for the exchange of ideas and the advancement of the field.
  • Advocate for funding and resources that support research and education initiatives, securing sustainable support to ensure the profession’s capacity to innovate, adapt, and thrive.
  • Acknowledge and reward excellence in research and practice, celebrating contributions that exemplify their integration. It also commits to archiving and preserving knowledge, ensuring that today’s insights inform tomorrow’s practice.
