Sanjoy Roy
I have been engaged in social work teaching, research and practice in the last two decades.
Throughout my social work journey, I have contributed to promote quality social work education in India and Asian sub-continents. The knowledge, expertise and experience are aligned with the IASSW vision and mission statement. In today’s complex world, the social work profession is facing grave challenges which we have to address through locally relevant, socially significant and globally competent professionals and cadres through maintaining the
standards of the profession. This could be achieved through multi-stakeholder partnerships with social work fraternity from across the globe. The futuristic endeavours also need to align with UN Conventions on protecting the rights of all human beings to ensure peace, harmony, inclusive and sustainable development.
The IASSW is committed to take forward ‘The Global Task Force’ for standardisation of social work education in partnership with the regional and national associations. This marvellous task only possible through constant and committed efforts. I will try to pursue IASSW’s vision through organising conferences, symposium, collaborative research and the documentation of based practices around the world.
Presently, I am heading one of India’s top social work departments and also holding many administrative portfolios in the university which could help to organise many national and international events in the area of contemporary social work practices, research and education.
I am also connected with social work educators working in different international universities such as, USA, UK, Europe, Asia, South-East Asia. These networks will support my futuristic vision to pursue the commitment of IASSW. I will try to ensure that the next generation of social workers have access to excellent quality learning opportunities that also incorporate social work knowledge deriving from research, experience, policy and practice from across the globe. Moreover, my efforts will also drive to nurture a spirit of collaboration and knowledge transfer between different social work schools and between social work education, practice and research institutions.
I will try to expand the membership in many developing countries and also to build strategic partnerships with other state level social work associations to work for broadening the scope and concretizing action plan of IASSW in partnership with the governments and advocate to set up ‘Social Work Council’ s in respective countries. Finally, my vision will strive to build a strong and unified professional community and strengthen the fraternity to serve humanity.
