Arts in Social Work

This book-the first of its kind on arts in social work creates a deep theoretical rational for using arts, as a methodology that embodies the “person in context” paradigm of social work. This is different from – (but can also include) the more dynamic projective use of arts in art therapy, the fine art focus on aesthetics, and purely political art . Social art aims to co create knowledge with service users, engage their creativity, resilience and cultural context- and utilize it to empower destigmatize, humanize and transform..

This book demonstrates- through many international examples, methods of using arts for personal, group and community change-within specific socio- cultural contexts. The focus is on rationales and methods for including arts in social work , so that social workers can utilize the arts themselves, or collaborate with artists.
