The volume is part of the SpringerBriefs in Advancing Social Work and Social Work Education series, which promotes international scholarship in social work education and creates opportunities for perspectives from regions whose voices are often less represented in international academic discussions.

Social Work Scholarship in the Global South brings together contributions from scholars working across Aotearoa New Zealand, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe. Through country-based studies, the book explores key issues in social work education, including decolonisation, indigenisation, indigenous knowledge, curriculum development, professionalisation, and the relationship between global standards and local contexts.

A distinctive feature of the volume is its focus on emerging scholars from the Global South. The book provides a platform for their scholarship, experiences, and critical perspectives to be shared with the wider international social work community.

The volume highlights how educators and scholars are developing contextually grounded approaches to social work education, research, and practice, while engaging with global frameworks and standards. It also demonstrates how scholarship can contribute to transformation through community engagement, policy work, and innovative teaching.

This timely publication invites readers to reflect on whose knowledge counts in social work education and how education and practice can become more culturally relevant, inclusive, and responsive to local realities.

The book will be of interest to social work educators, researchers, practitioners, students, and policymakers interested in the development and future of social work education in the Global South.
