Call to Remember – Reflect – Reimagine

As IASSW prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2028, we invite contributions from our global social work education and research community that document and reflect on the Association’s 100 year journey. We are particularly interested in its origins and historical development, key milestones and critical moments, the people and voices that have shaped IASSW across the decades, and its contribution to social work education, research, and scholarship. We invite global, regional and country contributions and perspectives to develop an inclusive and diverse account of IASSW’s journey. These can take many forms, from formal academic and
historical accounts to personal memories, stories, photographs and other materials that capture IASSW’s history and development.

We welcome your sharing of:

  • Stories and memories of involvement in IASSW, including activities, meetings, conferences and other significant moments.
  • Historical accounts of IASSW’s development and activities in your country or region.
  • Photographs, conference programmes, newsletters, reports and other historical or archival documents, with relevant dates, names, places and contextual information.
  • Stories of people who have contributed to IASSW and the development of social work education.
  • Accounts of significant developments and milestones of IASSW’s contribution to social work education in your region.
  • Existing research, publications and archival materials relevant to IASSW’s history.
  • Reflections on significant achievements, challenges and critical moments in IASSW’s 100 year journey.
  • Ideas on reimagining the future of IASSW and social work education, drawing on 100 years of experience and reflection.

For IASSW’s commemoration, we are particularly interested in bringing together diverse perspectives on the Association’s global, regional and country specific development, engagement, partnerships and collaborations, as well as the achievements, changes and challenges that have shaped its 100-year journey.

Centenary Activities and Events in the Build up to 2028

This Centenary project will unfold through a series of activities and initiatives from 2027 onwards, culminating in the Centenary commemoration at the World Conference on Social Work, Education, and Social Development in Paris, 4-7 July 2028.

Your contributions will help shape IASSW’s global and regional Centenary programme and its legacy. Activities and outputs are envisaged to include, among others, webinars, podcasts, interviews and academic publications leading up to 2028 and as part of the Centenary commemoration.

Please share your ideas for activities and events through which the Centenary can be commemorated globally, regionally or in your country, and indicate your interest and availability to help organise such initiatives.

Submission timeline

We encourage you to submit your contributions and ideas by 30 October 2026 to support the initial planning and development of the Centenary programme, publications and activities for 2027.

Further contributions will be welcomed until 30 December 2026, to ensure that the material received can inform the planning and development of the Centenary commemoration.

We will collaborate with Regional Centenary Coordinators to plan Centenary focused activities and events from 2027 onwards, ensuring broad participation and diverse regional and country perspectives in the Centenary outputs.

Please send your contributions to IASSW Communication at communication@iassw-aiets.org and copy the relevant Regional Centenary Coordinator, where applicable, to support regional coordination and collaboration.
